Faith City Church was planted in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area with one conviction: everyone belongs here.
How we started
Born in the Bay
Faith City Church was founded in 2012 by Pastor David Chen and a small group of friends who believed the Bay Area needed a church that looked like its community — diverse, curious, and open to everyone.
We started with 40 people in a rented warehouse in Oakland. Fourteen years later, we gather thousands of people every week across our main campus and online — but the heart hasn't changed.
We're a church that asks hard questions, welcomes doubters, and believes that faith is best lived in community. Whether you've been following Jesus your whole life or you're just curious, you're welcome here.
What we believe
Our core beliefs
We hold to the historic Christian faith while remaining open, curious, and committed to love above all.
The Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God — our guide for faith, life, and community.
Jesus
We believe Jesus is the Son of God, fully human and fully divine, who died and rose again for the restoration of all things.
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is active today — guiding, comforting, and empowering followers of Jesus.
Community
We believe faith is meant to be lived in community — not alone. The church is the body of Christ, and we need each other.
Justice & Service
We believe following Jesus means caring for our neighbors, pursuing justice, and serving the city we call home.
Belonging
We believe everyone belongs before they believe. Our table is wide, our welcome is genuine, and our doors are always open.
The people behind it
Meet our leadership
Lead Pastor
Pastor David Chen
David planted Faith City in 2012 after years of ministry in the Bay Area. He's passionate about building a church that reflects the diversity and creativity of the region. He and his wife, Lisa, have three kids and have called Oakland home for over 15 years.
Teaching Pastor
Pastor Sarah Kim
Sarah joined the team in 2016 and leads our teaching ministry. A gifted communicator and theologian, she brings depth, warmth, and honesty to every message. She grew up in San Jose and holds a Masters of Divinity from Fuller Seminary.
Community Pastor
Pastor Marcus Webb
Marcus leads our outreach and community engagement work. He's spent two decades building relationships across the Bay Area and believes the church's greatest calling is to serve its neighbors. He and his family live in East Oakland.
